The Internet, Tech Companies And Obama All Stand With Ahmed
Ahmed Mohamed, 14, was arrested in Irving, Texas, after his teacher mistook his homemade digital clock for an explosive device. Now, he has been invited to the White House as well as Facebook and Google. After being pulled out of class by police, arrested, searched, handcuffed, fingerprinted, questioned and denied his request to call his parents, he was released without any charges - or his clock.
Class discussion: Did Ahmed, the school faculty or police do anything wrong? Why or why not? Do you think racial or religious bias had anything to do with the incident? Why or why not? One presidential candidate said he doesn't believe the United States should have a Muslim president, and a recent poll found 38 percent of Americans agree with him. Do you agree with him? What does the Constitution say about religious tests for holding office?
