Activities:
1. Draw a large football on a piece of paper. Paste newspaper names of school and professional football teams on your drawing.
2. Collect names of football players in newspaper headlines. List the players and their positions. Which team positions are represented?
3. Read several news stories about football games. Make a list of the verbs used to describe the action. Write your own sentences with three of the verbs.
4. What special meanings do these words have in football: (a) end, (b) down, (c) safety and (d) center?
5. What comic strip characters would you put on a football team? Explain your choices.
