Activities:

1. Draw a large sun. Paste newspaper pictures or names of birds on the sun. Put a star by birds that migrate.

2. On the weather map, find three places that are as warm or warmer than where you live.

3. In your newspaper, circle foods you think migrating birds would eat.

4. How are these important to migration: (a) insects, (b) obligate migrants, (b) tall buildings and (d) wildlife refuges?

5. Research birds in your area. Which birds fly away from where you live — or to where you live in the winter? Write about the birds and why your location is important to them.

Mini Page activities meet many state and national educational standards. Each week we identify standards that relate to The Mini Page content and offer activities that will help your students reach them.

This week's standard:
Students understand the interactions of animals and their environments. (Science: Life Science)

(standards by Dr. Sherrye D. Garrett, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi)
