Activities:

1. Divide a piece of paper in half. On one side, draw a scary jack-o’-lantern. On the other, draw a funny jack-o’-lantern. Ask friends which they like best.

2. In your newspaper, circle words and pictures of pumpkin foods. Put stars by words and pictures of pumpkins used as decorations.

3. Collect news stories and pictures of the different ways people decorate jack-o’- lanterns, such as carving, painting or pasting things on pumpkins.

4. How are these related to jack-o’-lanterns and pumpkins: (a) squash bees, (b) pepos, (c) turnips and (d) watchmen?

5. Research some pumpkin recipes. Design a menu for a Pumpkin Restaurant. Include appetizers, entrees, side dishes and desserts. Design a cover for your menu.

Mini Page activities meet many state and national educational standards. Each week we identify standards that relate to The Mini Page content and offer activities that will help your students reach them.

This week's standard:
Students demonstrate an interest and appreciation for a variety of foods. (Nutrition)
