Activities:

1. Cut out newspaper pictures and words showing the different ways people communicate. Paste them on a timeline from the oldest to the newest.

2. Write a short message to a friend using Morse code symbols.

3. In your newspaper, circle pictures of telephones and cellphones. Put a star by the one you like best.

4. How are these important in the history of communications: (a) telegraph, (b) Alexander Bell, (c) switchboards and (d) radio waves?

5. Interview family members and friends. Ask them to tell you about how telephones have changed in their lifetimes. Write about what you learn about telephones.

Mini Page activities meet many state and national educational standards. Each week we identify standards that relate to The Mini Page content and offer activities that will help your students reach them.

This week's standard:
Students understand science and technology. (Science: Science and Technology)

(standards by Dr. Sherrye D. Garrett, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi)
