Activities:

1. Make a “Stay Safe” poster. Use newspaper pictures to show how you would stay safe in a thunderstorm.

2. In your newspaper, circle names of products or sports teams that use words related to thunderstorms, lightning or other kinds of weather.

3. Create a quiz about what to do and not to do in a thunderstorm. Ask friends to answer the questions.

4. How do these help you understand lighting: (a) sonic boom, (b) graupel, (c) red sprites and blue elves, and (d) heat lightning?

5. People make up stories to explain thunder and lightning, such as thunder is the result of clouds bowling. Make up your own story to explain thunder and lightning.
