Activities:

1. Draw a picture of the USS Arizona Memorial. Paste newspaper words that describe the attack at Pearl Harbor and words that describe the soldiers, Marines and sailors who were on the island of Oahu.

2. Collect news stories about activities between the United States and Japan. What do the stories tell you about the modern - day relationship between the two countries?

3. Why are these important to P earl Harbor: (a) 1898, (b) USS Arizona, (c) Germany an d Italy, and (d) Battleship Row?

4. Listen to Roosevelt’s “Day of Infamy” speech at bit.ly/2cEjw4g . Make a list of all the places the Japanese attacked. Make a list of three to five phrases t hat you liked from the speech. Share the speech and your reactions with a friend or family member.

5. Visit the National Park Service site about Pearl Harbor at nps.gov/valr/index.htm to learn more about the attack on Pearl Harbor. Use the information to create a travel brochure for people who visit the USS Arizona Memorial. Include information about the history of Pearl Harbor and the damage inflicted on the U.S. military and civilians .
