Activities:
1. Draw a large dining room table. Paste newspaper pictures of the foods used to celebrate the Chinese New Year on your table. Draw or paste pictures of decorations on your table.
2. Pick five comic strip characters you would invite to go with you to a Chinese New Year celebration. Explain why you choose these characters.
3. Look for newspaper stories about the Chinese New Year. What do the stories tell about food? What about traditions? What celebrations are happening in your community?
4. How are these part of the Chinese New Year: (a) dragons, (b) red paper, (c) lanterns and (d) the Rooster?
5. Research New Year’s celebrations in other Asian cultures. Write a paragraph comparing that culture’s traditions with Chinese New Year traditions.
