Activities:

1. Make a set of trivia trading cards for Justice O’Connor. On one side of each card, draw a picture of the justice scales. On the other side of each card, write one question about Justice O’Connor’s life and career. Have friends draw a card and try to answer the question. If they answer correctly, they keep the card. The player with the most cards wins.

2. Give several newspaper pages to a friend. Take several pages yourself. Set a timer for three minutes. Both of you go through your pages and circle any word that relates to laws or the courts. See who has the most words after three minutes.

3. Design an invitation to a party honoring Justice O’Connor. Now find five people in the newspaper you would invite to the party. Explain your choices.

4. Use each set of words to create a new sentence: (a) O’Connor, Arizona, senator; (b) living document, justices, laws; (c) Stanford, Los Angeles, smart; (d) Sotomayor, three, today.

5. Write five questions you still have about Justice O’Connor after you read The Mini Page. Use the Internet or books to find answers to your questions.

Mini Page activities meet many state and national educational standards. Each week we identify standards that relate to The Mini Page content and offer activities that will help your students reach them.

This week's standard:
Students under stand how historic events, people, places and situations contribute to our understanding of the past. (Social Studies)
