Meet a new breed
of super heroes!

The CENTSABLES is a unique new initiative geared to teaching kids about money, savings, financial literacy and life's values. Targeted to ages 6-12 but interesting and fun for older ages and even adults, The CENTSABLES revolves around six super-hero friends who, through their everyday adventures and examples, teach sound financial responsibility and positive behavior.

Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Comerica Bank, a new CENTSABLES feature will be available for you to download for your students each week for the next 32 weeks. Most features are hands-on, with a puzzle or game to reinforce the mini-lesson. Twice a year, in early January 2009 and May 2009, ordering classrooms will be provided with classroom sets of printed student supplements, each containing 16 CENTSABLES features in full color, as they appeared online.

To further enhance your students' study of basic financial knowledge and skills, you can also download Project Money Smart, a comprehensive online teacher guide with activities for grades K-12 written by an educational specialist from the Chicago Federal Reserve. You will find this guide by clicking on Teacher Guides (found in the blue bar on the www.dnie.com homepage) and entering the password demand. A link to the guide will appear in the yellow box. You may also want to check out the Focus on Finance student section. Click on Programs on the blue bar and then choose Detroit Free Press Programs. Scroll down until you see the image of Focus on Finance.

On November 10, watch for an online survey on the www.dnie.com web site asking for your and your students' opinions and suggestions about The CENTSABLES, and offering you a chance to win valuable gift certificates and certificates of participation for your students.

In order to access the weekly CENTSABLES features and to receive the two classroom sets of printed student supplements, please register your contact information. Click on the yellow registration bar at the top right hand side of the page.
