C. The Sindhu is a river in western India/Bharat where one of the world’s oldest civilizations originated. Persians pronounced the word as Hindus. Greeks later interpreted Hindus as Indus, another name for the river. These words evolved into India, Indian, Hindu, Hindustan, Hinduism and Hindi, one of the nation’s languages which is tied to ancient Sanskrit.
B. The Bharatas came from what is now Afghanistan and Pakistan and crossed the 500-mile stretch of Himalayan Mountains. They helped establish the Vedic culture on the subcontinent. The Bharatas also were among the clans who eventually formed the Kuru Kingdom, the first attested state in the subcontinent’s history.
