Free Speech or a Call to Violence?
In the wake of the Tuscon shooting that left six dead, one lawmaker is calling for a bill outlawing threatening speech directed at federal officials■Class discussion: Can you recite the First Amendment? Which five freedoms does that amendment protect? Which do you consider the most important? Would a bill as described violate someone's Freedom of Speech rights? So what if it did? Should we ban vitriolic speech anyway? What's next? Banning threatening speech against police? Against teachers? Against you? Where do we draw the line? And who draws that line?
