A cricket's life in New York provides a joy ride for all ages.
The Cricket in Times Square is a story about Chester, a cricket, who travels in a picnic basket from Connecticut to the Times Square subway station in New York City, and makes his home in a newsstand. He meets a young boy named Mario, a mouse called Tucker and Tucker's friend Harry Cat. The new best friends experience many adventures in the city and somehow even manage to save the failing newsstand. The Cricket in Times Square is a Newberry Honor Book and originally published in 1960.
The six-week program will run in April 6 - May 18, 2008 as part of the company's Reading by Nine literacy initiative. One Book One Community(TM) encourages Central Florida children - and the adults in their lives - to read the same book. Other events such as read-alouds and a writing contest also will be part of this annual program.
