SAT cheating scandal brings more arrests
A SAT cheating scandal on New York's Long Island has resulted in charges against 20 young adults. Investigators charge that students paid sums ranging from $500 to $3,5000 for others to take the college entrance exam for them. School officials uncovered the scheme after investigating students with relatively poor grades who scored high on the SAT. Other high school students said they were not surprised, telling reporters it was to cheat on the SAT.■Class discussion: Is it fair that the young adults paid to take the tests face much harsher penalties than the students that paid them? Students told reporters that cheating was easy. Have you heard from other students of cheating on the SAT? Do you feel obligated to tell authorities if you witness cheating? The SAT scandal is only one example of cheating. Search for newspaper reports on other examples of cheating, such as tax evasion or accounting fraud. How are those cheaters punished?
