BIOTECH

DEFINITION:
Short for biotechnology: the use of a living organism, biological substances or techniques to engineer or manufacture a product or substance, as when cells that produce antibodies are cloned in order to study their effects on cancer cells.

FOUND IN THE NEWS:
Meanwhile, a new front opened Friday in the battle over the bill, with Democrats vowing to amend it to include biotech companies, and a group opposed to embryonic stem cell research pledging to block the measure if that happens.
