UN Report: 10.5 Million Children Are Domestic Laborers
The International Labor Organization reports that 215 million children worldwide are working, many full-time. Of those, 10.5 million work in a domestic setting, for households or families not their own. And of those children, 6.5 million are between the ages of 5 and 14 -- and 71 percent are girls.
■Class discussion: Why are so many of the world's children working? Do you know if the products you buy were produced by child labor? Is there any way of finding out which products are made by children? What is the history of child labor in the United States and what are the laws covering the practice?
