Electric cars redefine future of drag racing
Electric cars redefine future of racing
Electric cars are headed for the track as racing teams develop high-performance versions of the green machines. On the drag strip, the ability of electric motors to instantly deliver full power is an advantage. There already are all-electric drag races and electric cars competing in the Pikes Peak race. Next year, Formula One is launching an electric racing series.
■Class discussion: Would you enjoy watching a car race without the deafening roar of an internal combustion engine? What are the advantages of racing electric vehicles? What are the disadvantages? How can racing lead to technological breakthroughs for automakers? Do you expect to own and drive an electric vehicle in the future? Why or why not?
