Malala Yousafzai Is Youngest Ever To Win Nobel Peace Prize
Pakistan's Malala Yousafzai, 17, has become the youngest person to ever to be awarded Noble Peace Prize for her work on children's rights. In 2012, she was the target of an attempted assassination by the Taliban for promoting girls' education. She shares the prize with Kailash Satyarthi, 60, of India who was honored for decades of fighting child slavery in his country.
■Class discussion: Why do the Taliban and some other religious fundamentalists oppose education for women? In what other ways are women oppressed around the world? Women find the greatest equality and opportunities in which countries? How widespread is child slavery in the world? How does poverty and debt force children to work in horrific conditions?
