Clearing your browser history could put you in prison
The recent Boston Marathon bombing trial has brought to light a law, passed in 2002, that could put you in a federal prison for 20 years for simply clearing your browser history. It doesn't matter if you are unaware of any investigation, you can still be charged with obstructing justice for destroying records that federal investigators later decide they want to see.
■Class discussion: Does this law make sense to you? Do you ever clear your browser history or delete old email, pictures or text messages? What if a federal investigator wants to see those files later? A civil rights report on Ferguson, Missouri, police cited the apparent abuse of a “Manner of Walking in Roadway” law. Does it appear you can be charged with a crime for doing almost anything?
