Years ago, someone coined the term "pacman elbow" to describe a mild form of tendinitis stemming from the overuse of a joystick. Today CNN exposes TTT (Texting Teen Tendonitis) with dire warnings about "a boom in thumb-joint replacement surgeries over the next several decades." CNN is kidding, right?
■Class discussion: Regardless of the dubious medical implications, the video does point out that parents often have no idea. The mother thought her daughter was sending 25 texts a day. The doctor finds the daughter was actually sending about 200 texts a day and last month sent 8,000 text messages in just a month. Isn't that massive disconnect more troublesome than potential thumb-joint surgery 30 years from now?
