FAA calls on airports to crack down on unruly passengers
The FAA says there's only so much flight attendants can handle when it comes to dealing with unruly passengers, and it's calling on airport police to not let perpetrators escape without facing criminal charges. There’s been a surge in violent and disruptive passengers since the pandemic began. The FAA can impose fines on unruly passengers, but it is up to police to file criminal charges, like they did last week against a passenger accused of assaulting flight attendants.
■Class discussion: How dangerous are disruptive passengers? Have you or someone you know ever experienced such disturbances on an airplane? When should unruly passengers face imprisonment? How often is alcohol involved in these violent incidents? Should airlines stop serving alcohol on flights? What about serving alcohol to people waiting in airports? Selling alcohol can be very profitable. Is it likely that airlines or airports would restrict alcohol sales?
