Here's More Proof That Sugar Is Really Bad For Kids
Not surprisingly, when kids ate less sugar in a recent study, their health improved. More surprisingly, according to the study, it wasn't because of fewer calories. Researchers designed a diet that reduced participants' dietary sugar from 28 percent to 10 percent and subsidized the new diet with starches. The children saw improvements in insulin sensitivity and blood pressure.
Class discussion: Do you have any idea how much sugar you eat every day? Do you ever check the labels on the food you eat? A researcher said the reduced sugar helped even though kids ate “ crappy food ... processed food.” How much of what you eat is processed – comes out of a box or can? Do you eat fresh fruits, vegetables and meat? Which costs more fresh or packaged food?
