More than 40 million people are affected by modern slavery. A recent report about African migrants in Libya being auctioned off as slaves is an example of the forced labor that touches every region on the planet — including the U.S. Modern slavery is described as a form of exploitation where a person can't leave for a number of reasons, including threats of violence.
Class discussion: Can you find examples in the news of people being enslaved? Which nations have the most slaves? How are modern slaves being used? What goods and services are slaves producing? Would you be willing to boycott goods produced by slaves? What about boycotting nations that don’t do more to end slavery? Who are the people most likely to become victims of slavery?
