Iceland’s enforcement of equal pay is a first
Iceland’s new equal pay law is pretty simple. If men and women are doing the same job, employers have to pay them the same salary. But here's what gives the ruling some weight: Companies with over 25 employees that don't follow through will be fined. Iceland is the first country in the world to enact this type of legislation.
Class discussion: What do you think of this equal pay law? Why is Iceland the only country to have such a law? Do you think the United States could pass an equal pay law? Why or why not? How much pay inequality is there in the United States? Why is so difficult to end inequality in the workplace?
