Activities:

1. Draw a picture of the planet Saturn at the top of a piece of paper. Under your picture, list interesting facts about Saturn. Use the information in The Mini Page. You may want to use other books or the internet to get more facts.

2. Collect articles about the solar eclipse on Aug. 21. How complete will the eclipse be in your area? What recommendations are made for viewing the eclipse?

3. In the newspaper, circle advertised classes or courses that would be good for a future astronaut. Circle any individual who might be able to help future astronauts.

4. Why are these important in the study of Saturn: (a) 22 orbits, (b) gravity and magnetic fields, (c) Titan and (d) liquid ocean?

5. Make a list of the qualifications necessary for an astronaut: physical, intellectual, emotional. Now create a classified ad asking for people to apply to be astronauts.

Mini Page activities meet many state and national educational standards. Each week we identify standards that relate to The Mini Page content and offer activities that will help your students reach them.

This week's standard:
Students understand changes in the Earth and sky. (Science: Earth and Space Science).

(standards by Dr. Sherrye D. Garrett, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi)
