Activities:

1. Pick an event or observance on the 2018 calendar. Design three greeting cards to celebrate the event/observance. Give your greeting cards to friends or family members.

2. Select a different event or observance from the calendar. In the newspaper, find a place for the celebration, food and entertainment for the celebration.

3. Divide a piece of paper into 12 empty squares t o make your own 2018 calendar. In each square, paste a newspaper picture or word to commemorate that month. Share your calendar with friends.

4. Which calendar events are based on (a) history, (b) culture, (c) religious observances and (d) safety and assistance?

5. Select three stories from the newspaper that would serve as the basis for a new celebration or holiday. Give your holiday a name. Now find three people in the newspaper w ho would enjoy each of your celebrations. Explain why you chose these “guests.”
