Activities:

1. Think of an interesting or exciting event in your life. Pretend you are going to write a book about it. Give your book a title and draw a cover. Have friends try to guess what your book is about based on the title and art.

2. Select three books from today’s Mini Page. Into what section of the newspaper would each book fit? Explain why you selected those newspaper sections.

3. Select five people in the newspaper. Pick a book from today’ s Mini Page that you would recommend for each person.

4. Which books in today’s Mini Page (a) are about real life, (b) encourage you to try new things, (c) tell yo u about another time in history and (d) a re about historical individuals?

5. Make a reading game. Put the title and author of each book on a 3 - by - 5 card. Shuffle the cards and place them face down on a table or other surface. Have a player pick two cards. The player then makes up a new story based on the book titles they have drawn. Take turns picking cards. To make the game more difficult, pick three cards.
