Activities:

1. Draw a shop ping cart on a piece of paper. Paste newspaper pictures of items you want or need to start school in your cart.

2. Draw a circle. Divide it into three equal sections. Label the sections Healthy, Ready to Learn, and Communicating With Others. Paste newspaper words and pictures in each section that show what you can do to be ready to learn. Words can name items and equipment or personal characteristics.

3. Choose a person from the newspaper that you’d like to have in your classes with you. Explain your choice.

4. Find something in the newspaper that would help each of these school helpers get ready for school: (a) teacher, (b) janitor, (c) bus driver and (d) office worker .

5. With friends, write a plan that you could follow that would help you be better students this year. Include at least five steps.

Mini Page activities meet many state and national educational standards. Each week we identify standards that relate to The Mini Page content and offer activities that will help your students reach them.

This week's standard:
Students demonstrate personal responsibility for their education by becoming autonomous learners engaged in all aspects of the educational process. (Character Education: Academic Domain)

(standards by Dr. Sherrye D. Garrett, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi)
