Activities:

1. Plan your food choices for one day. Draw three plates on a piece of paper . On the first plate, paste newspaper words or pictures that show a healthy breakfast. On the second plate, paste words/pictures of what you would like take to school for lunch. On the third plate, paste words/pictures of what you would like to eat at ho me for dinner. Be sure to include healthy choices.

2. With a friend, go through the newspaper and circle words that name foods. Use different colors. Circle fruits or vegetables with green, meat with red, breads and cereals with blue, and dairy products and eggs with orange. How many different foods did you find? What foods could you put together for a meal?

3. Make a five - day snack plan for school. Use the newspaper to find items you could pack and eat easily to take to school. Divide a piece of paper into five days. Label your days Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. In each section , paste words/pictures for three different easy - to - eat items: a fruit, a vegetable, and a bread, cereal or dairy item. Share your choices with your parents.

4. How is healthy eating related to these situations: (a) your health, (b) learning , (c) getting along with others and (d) growing?

5. Interview several friends. Ask them to name their favorite snack items. Make a list of their answers. Now go through the list and put a check mark by snacks that aren’t particularly healthy. Next to those snacks, write the name of a healthier snack choice.
