Activities:

1. Create a poster with the title Eleanor Roosevelt: A Capable and Busy Lady. Paste newspaper words on your poster that show Eleanor’s skills and abilities and words that tell what she did during her life. You might want to add newspaper pictures to your poster.

2. Pretend you are planning a tour of your community for Eleanor Roosevelt. Use the newspaper to identify five different places you would show her. Explain your choices.

3. Find three people in the newspaper that you think Eleanor would like to meet. Pick one national person, one state person and one local person. Explain why you chose each person.

4. How did these affect Eleanor Roosevelt’s life: (a) polio, (b) Marie Souvestre, (c) International Declaration of Human Rights and (d) journalism?

5. Create a brochure about Eleanor Roosevelt. Tell about the many aspects of her life. You might use these subtitles: Early Life, Political Life and Traveling the World. You might find internet pictures of Eleanor to add to your brochure.

Mini Page activities meet many state and national educational standards. Each week we identify standards that relate to The Mini Page content and offer activities that will help your students reach them.

This week's standard:
Students use biographies to understand individuals who are honored by the nation. (Social Studies: History)

(standards by Dr. Sherrye D. Garrett, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi)
