Activities:
1. Pick a picture from each of these sections of the newspaper: front section news, local news, sports, entertainment or lifestyle section. Paste the pictures on a piece of paper. Now write a sentence describing a story that would include all of the pictures on your sheet.
2. In the newspaper, circle all the items you think Meg Medina and Sophie Blackall might use in their work for children’s books.
3. Match each of these titles with a friend or family member that you think might like that book:
4. The John NewberyMedal is awarded for writing. Select a headline from your newspaper and write a paragraph describing a story you might write about it.
5. The Randolph Caldecott Medalis awarded for picture books. Use pictures from the newspaper to create a book cover for a story you would like to write. Be sure to include your title on the cover.
