US won't demand details of anti-Trump Twitter
The Trump administration has dropped a request to access the personal information of an anti-Trump Twitter account after the social media company threatened to take them to court because the government hadn’t demonstrated that the account was linked to any criminal investigation. The account in question is @ALT-USCIS, one of the many Twitter accounts using the conceit of an "alternative" government agency to protest President Trump.
■Class discussion: Was Twitter right to fight the request to identify President Trump’s critic? When should Twitter or another social media company reveal information about users? Do Americans have the right to anonymously criticize politicians? Are many public officials too sensitive to criticism?
