Probe begins after deadly white nationalist rally
The FBI has opened a civil rights investigation into violence at a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, that killed a 32-year-old woman and injured 19 others. The driver of a car that plowed into a group of counter-protesters was arrested and held on suspicion of second-degree murder. Investigators are looking into the motives of the suspect, 20-year-old James Fields from Ohio.
■Class discussion: Does the crash look like it was intentional? Would you call it a terrorist attack? Why or why not? Did President Donald Trump say enough to condemn the white nationalists for violence at the rally? How much of the violence was caused by counter-protesters? Should the president strongly disown the white nationalist groups that backed candidacy and embraced his presidency?
