Robots will soon do more work tasks than humans
A World Economic Forum report predicts that the rise of robotics and artificial intelligence will result in machines performing more tasks on the job than humans by 2025. Machines will take over 71 percent of tasks done by humans today, the study says. It also estimates that while that trend could displace 75 million routine-based jobs globally by 2022, it'll create 133 million new jobs that rely on human skills, like sales, marketing and scientific-based positions.
■Class discussion: What are you doing to prepare to enter a rapidly changing job market? Is the job you want likely to exist in a few years? Are your parents ready to adapt? Are schools and colleges changing their courses to prepare their students for this “brave new world”? What are political leaders doing about the expected loss of millions of traditional jobs? Are they trying to prop up outdated industries and jobs? Or, are they spending money to retrain workers for the millions of new jobs?
