FBI digging into background of Pensacola shooter
FBI agents are scouring the scene of a shooting at Naval Air Station Pensacola and digging evidence into the background of the alleged shooter, who killed three people and wounded 10 others before he was killed. He was a Saudi pilot, and one of several hundred foreign pilots training at Pensacola. He later was linked to an anti-American online post. Three other Saudi student pilots reportedly were outside the classroom building while the shooting took place with one of them recording a video.
■Class discussion: As President Donald Trump tweeted his condolences to the victims’ families, he also said the Saudi king assured him the shooter “in no way shape or form represents the feelings of the Saudi people.” Have individual Saudis been involved in past terrorist attacks on Americans? Why does the administration appear to avoid criticizing Saudis while it bans travelers from other Muslim nations? What happened after a Washington Post journalist and legal U.S. resident was murdered in a Saudi embassy?
