Obama wants limits on standardized testing in the classroom
President Obama said he wants to limit announced standardized testing in public schools. While the Obama administration does want some testing for students, the administration wants federal legislation to limit the time students spend taking standardized tests to no more than 2 percent of instruction time.
■Class discussion: How many standardized tests do you take a year? How much time do you spend in class to prepare for the tests? Do the tests make you nervous? Can standardized tests measure how much you know or how well you will do in the future? Do the tests determine how much money your school gets or how much your teachers get paid?
