Women march for a range of issues in Washington
Hundreds of thousands of people attended the Women's March on Washington on Saturday, among millions of protesters in hundreds of cities around the world. People weren't just making a statement, they were demanding action and protection of freedoms. Among the issues the marchers listed were women’s rights, health care, climate change, immigration and racism.
■Class discussion: How did Saturday’s crowds in Washington compare to attendance at President Trump’s inauguration the day before? Who came up with the idea for a women’s march on Washington? Why were demonstrators worried about their issues? Can you find any demonstrations that involved more people or more cities? What do you think of the demonstrations and the protesters’ demands?
