At least 8 'Robin Hood' films are in development
"Robin Hood": the timeless tale of stealing from the rich and giving to the poor. Lionsgate is coming out with a gritty reimagining of the character, but it might have to compete with at least seven other Robin Hood film adaptations in development right now. There have been plenty of Robin Hood movies before, and filmmakers think they can still make plenty of money rehashing the old tale.
■Class discussion: Do you enjoy watching new versions of old films? How many different Batman, Superman or Spiderman films have you seen? Are remakes usually better or worse than the original movies? The Robin Hood story is in the “public domain.” What does that mean? When was the last time you saw a movie that had a completely original story, not an adaptation of a book, play or older film?
