Japan ranks as the second-wealthiest nation in East Asia, followed by Taiwan, China, and Mongolia. However, China’s special regions of Macau and Hong Kong have higher GDPs per person.
D. Japan had annexed Korea in 1910. In the last few days of World War II, the Soviet Union declared war on Japan and sent troops into northern Korea. Worried that the Soviets would take all of the peninsula, the United States proposed two zones of occupation.
