Modi and his Bharatiya Janata Party are right-wing Hindu nationalists, calling India’s Muslims “infiltrators.” Over the centuries, religious conflict has killed untold millions of people in South Asia. Nearly 80% of India’s estimated 1.4 billion people are Hindus, 14.2% are Muslims, 2.3% are Christians, and less than 1% are Buddhists.
