Lionel Messi scores game-winning goal in his debut $1 million match

In his debut with the Inter Miami Major League Soccer team, Lionel Messi scored the game-winning goal on a free kick. Messi is considered the game’s greatest players, and he led Argentina to the World Cup championship. He signed a 2½-year contract with the Miami club that pays him more than $1 million per match. The 36-year-old Messi played his first game last Friday before a sellout crowd of 21,000 fans, including some who paid as much as a $1,000 for a seat.

Class discussion: Messi is an exceptional athlete who draws huge crowds. Is he worth $1 million a game? After expenses, singer Taylor Swift collects about $4.5 million for each of her concerts. Is there anything wrong with paying so much to very talented performers? How much do you and your family pay for entertainment like sports, music, movies, plays or television? Have human beings always sought out entertainment of one sort or another?
