More Phone Scammers Are Calling Your Cell Because Landlines Are Dead
Scammers made off with about $7.4 billion in stolen money last year from the callers they duped. They once targeted your landline, but now they're after your cellphone. According to Internet security experts, these scammers will use a multitude of tactics to get a buck from you, including pretending they're your bank, the government or tech support from companies like Microsoft, Norton and McAfee.
■Class discussion: Does your family still have a landline? Have you ever received suspicious phone calls or emails? Are you more skeptical or trusting? Have you ever been cheated by someone lying to you? Do you believe what you see on television or read on the Internet? How important is the source of your information? Who do you trust to tell you the truth? Who do you doubt?
