Google working on a stand-alone virtual reality headset
The next version of Google's Daydream headsets will be stand-alone models, which means there are no cords, no wires and no additional devices required. They also will have a motion tracking ability, that gives the wearer the ability to move within the virtual space the headset created, rather than just looking around. The models are projected to cost in the mid-hundreds and could compete with upcoming stand-alone headsets from industry giants like Oculus.
■Class discussion: Would you be willing to spend several hundred dollars for one of these new virtual reality headsets? Why or why not? Have you ever tried a virtual reality headset? If you have, was it interesting or boring? Why do you think some producers have cut back on producing virtual reality movies or software? What would you like to see or do with virtual reality? Has the technology been overhyped? Is it overpriced?
