Walmart cuts store hours to restock
Walmart is shortening its business hours as store shelves around the country are emptying because of a coronavirus-driven shopping frenzy for everything from toilet paper to food. The company said its 24-hour locations would only be open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., until further notice. The shorter hours will "help ensure associates are able to stock the products our customers are looking for and to perform cleaning and sanitizing," Walmart said.
■Class discussion: Have stores near you been emptied of goods by swarms of frightened shoppers? Has your family been stocking up on supplies because of the pandemic? What goods have your family been buying? Are you really worried about running out of toilet paper? Do you expect the stores to be restocked? Why or why not? Can anyone actually hoard enough supplies to last longer than the coronavirus outbreak? Does panic buying breed needless fear?
