A two-legged robot is delivering parcels to homes in northern England in what courier company Evri says is the first trial of its kind in Europe. The robot, named Iris, is being tested on pavements, stairs and uneven ground, as well as getting in and out of delivery vans. Evri says the robot is designed to support couriers rather than replace them, handling part of the final leg of deliveries as demand for home delivery grows.
Class discussion: Are you ready for robots or small aerial drones to deliver goods to your door? Do you worry that a robot or drone might damage packages or accidentally injure someone? Would you rather have a human deliver your package? Are you concerned that robots and artificial intelligence are replacing human workers? Are you more comfortable dealing with technology than your parents?
