Teen climate activist Greta Thunberg and fellow youth campaigners struck a skeptical tone for last week's climate talks in Italy, saying much has been promised but little done to tackle global warming. "Thirty years of blah, blah, blah," Thunberg chided world leaders. Fears that climate change is worsening grew after a United Nations report in August warned the situation was dangerously close to spiraling out of control, with the world certain to face further disruptions for generations to come.
Class discussion: Do you trust world leaders to take action on climate change? Why or why not? Do you expect to face far more heatwaves, droughts, floods and wildfires than your parents have experienced? What can young people do to reduce the impact of climate change? Can they demand political change and defeat any candidate that won’t act on climate change? Do they need to change the way they eat, shop and travel to cut carbon emissions? Do you think we still have time to limit global warming?
