Activities:

1. Use newspaper pictures and words to create an invitation to a Memorial Day service.

2. In your newspaper, put a star by information about Memorial Day services in your community. Circle an event you would like to attend.

3. Find the people who will be part of local Memorial Day services. List government officials, military people, entertainers and civilian leaders.

4. Which wars are commemorated in these places: (a) Normandy, (b) Flanders Field, (c) Mexico City and (d) Cambridge, England?

5. Research different scripts used in flag-folding ceremonies. The Boy Scout script is a popular one. Create your own 13-step script for a Memorial Day event.

Mini Page activities meet many state and national educational standards. Each week we identify standards that relate to The Mini Page content and offer activities that will help your students reach them.

This week's standard:
Students understand people and events honored in commemorative holidays. (History)

(standards by Dr. Sherrye D. Garrett, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi)
