Activities:

1. Make a “My Land” poster using newspaper words and pictures that describe your part of the country.

2. Ask friends and family members to identify the lines of “This Land Is Your Land” that best describe where they live.

3. In the newspaper, find stories about July Fourth celebrations that include music. How many different singers or musical groups can you find?

4. Find five people in the newspaper who would appreciate Woody Guthrie’s music and patriotism. Explain why.

5. Select one of the patriotic songs in The Mini Page. Write a new verse for the song.

Mini Page activities meet many state and national educational standards. Each week we identify standards that relate to The Mini Page content and offer activities that will help your students reach them.

This week's standard:
Students use biographies and stories to understand the individuals who are honored by the nation. (Social Studies: History)

(standards by Dr. Sherrye D. Garrett, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi)
