Sweden to tighten gun laws after mass shooting at school
After deadliest mass shooting in Sweden's history, the country's government planned to tighten the nation's gun laws. Eleven people were killed, including the gunman, and five others seriously wounded last week at at an adult education center west of Stockholm. The government said it would toughen checks on people applying for gun licenses and to clamp down on some semi-automatic weapons like the AR-15 design used in the worst mass shootings in the United States.
■Class discussion: Sweden intends to tighten up gun laws which are much stricter than any in the United States. Why don’t we toughen our laws after many far worse mass shootings? How many people were killed and wounded in our deadliest mass shooting? Most U.S. firearm deaths involve handguns, but assault-style rifles are the most lethal in mass shootings. Why did some members of Congress try to make the once banned AR-15 the National Gun of the United States?
