Vance says school shootings are a 'fact of life’

Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance said that school shootings are a “fact of life” and the U.S. needs to harden security to prevent more carnage like the Georgia shooting last week that left four dead and nine injured. Vance said further restricting access to guns, as many Democrats advocate, won’t stop school shootings. He touted efforts in Congress to give schools more money for security.

Class discussion: Do you think school shootings are now a fact of life? Why or why not? Do we need more laws to restrict access to guns? Should gun owners be required to lock up their weapons? Do we need metal detectors at every entry to every school? Do we need armed guards in every school or every classroom? Do you worry about your safety in the classroom? What would you do to stop school shootings?
